To alleviate much of the data entry of routine medication or IV orders, a common order can be preset within the database and selected by mnemonic code for addition to the patient's profile. These orders are individually displayed at the workstation to permit entry of the required modifications. When they are completed, they will be transferred to an active status. Common orders can be either a series of medications (such as routine post-op orders, intravenous fluids, hyperalimentation fluids, or standard dilutions of IV piggybacks) or a combination of these.
