To facilitate order entry for the physician and to reduce medication errors, MC/PLUS supports a Physician Order Entry module, MC/PLUS-MD , which directly integrates the MD's orders with the pharmacy, and thereby, reduces errors associated with handwriting interpretation. The associated applications run on a server which utilizes a handheld PDA capable of supporting Pocket IE (Internet Explorer). The module also functions on desktop PC workstations, or wireless PCs. Once the orders are entered by the physician, they are automatically printed at the nursing unit and in the appropriate department. The system places them in a queue where they await verification by the pharmacist. In addition to medication order entry, lab orders, treat-ments, dietary orders, consults, and diagnostic testing can be ordered via the MC/PLUS-MD module.
